Though Passover is celebrated in the spring, we had our own in October! Commemorating the Exodus, this holiday focuses on God's deliverance of the Israelites as they smeared blood on the door posts of their homes to signal the spirit of the Lord to pass by and spare their firstborn sons.
There was a certain order in which the dinner was set up and carried out, with everything having significance in some way
We tasted the bitter herbs, drank grape juice, and ate unleavened bread. Our amazing Judaism teacher Ophir, led the dinner and helped us know what to do.
Everyone had a chance to participate in the Seder by narrating, setting up, cooking, or singing. I got to sing a fun little song in Hebrew!
The books we followed along with, outlining what to do for each part of the meal and telling the story of the Exodus. Our meal lasted about 3 hours because we did the whole thing. Ophir, however, said that some families take parts out and do it however long they have time for.
It was a great night full of Jewish tradition!
